Thousands of people across the country have discovered the significant amounts of money that they can save through using alternate forms of energy to power their homes, vehicles and appliances. Not only does it make us less dependent on foreign resources, but it also helps to clean up our environment by not continuing to pour poisonous gasses into the atmosphere.

There are several renewable forms of energy that are promising. Some of them are a bit more user friendly than others and some work better in certain parts of the country than in others. An example of this is the use of wind energy. While almost all places receive wind, only certain areas receive enough constant wind to power a turbine and create enough energy to supply electricity to your home. On the other hand, solar power can be utilized pretty much everywhere. There are certain areas that may not receive enough sun to allow you to rely on it entirely but you can at least significantly lower your electric bill.

There are two ways that you can install solar panels to your home. One way is to simply hire a company to come and professionally install them for you. This is of course, the easiest, most hassle free way to do it. They will even secure the necessary permits and permission that you need from the city. The down side of this is that it is generally very expensive. There are government grants and incentive programs that can take a big bite out of the cost but if it is still out of your budget, you can install your own DIY solar panels. You can find detailed instructions on the Internet that can walk you step by step through the process and only minimal skills are required. You will need to know about the safety codes of your area and secure the permits required but it is an excellent way to save yourself thousands of dollars.
