While we are still waiting on the color Kindle reader from Amazon, let’s take a look at some of the great things that we can do with the current 3rd generation model. What we have to remember is that purchasing one of these hand held electronic reading devices is about more than just the gadget itself.
Free Kindle Books
One of the most exciting things about the Kindle is the system not the gadget. What is so impressive is that Kindle owners are able to save a fortune if they stick to the books that are available for free. The library of titles is in the region of two million, so there is plenty to choose from. Often, things that are free are worth about as much as we pay for them. But in the case of free Kindle books, this is not the case.
In actual fact, there are loads of free books that you may be shocked to find that you don’t have to purchase. For instance, Dracula, Crime and Punishment and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes are all available for free download. This is because they form part of the out of copyright collection.
Personalize your Screensavers
This is a little bit tricky to do but at the same time is not all that complicated. Rather than looking at the stock images each time you turn off your Kindle reader, you can actually load on other sets of images, or even create your own. You do need a little bit of technical knowledge to be able to do this. It is pretty simple as long as you follow the instructions.
What you have to do is jailbreak your Kindle reader which then lets you load on custom hacks. To use other images, you have to run a custom screen saver hack. You can find out more about this procedure if you search for “Kindle jailbreak”.
